Sleep Apnea

Better Sleep Starts With Better Breathing

Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder that can carry serious consequences when left untreated. It occurs when the airway becomes blocked during sleep, interrupting normal breathing and lowering oxygen flow.

At the Maine Center for Dental Medicine, we work with patients to determine whether snoring may be related to obstructive sleep apnea. When appropriate, we provide oral appliance therapy designed to improve airway support and help patients breathe more comfortably during sleep.

Our goal is to help patients restore better sleep, improve daily energy, and support overall wellness.

Signs You May Have Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea can show up in different ways. Some symptoms happen at night, while others are noticed during the day.

Loud Snoring

Snoring may happen when air has difficulty moving through the airway and soft tissues begin to vibrate.

Pauses in Breathing

A bed partner may notice breathing pauses, gasping, choking, or sudden awakenings during sleep.

Morning Symptoms

Patients may wake with a sore throat, dry mouth, headache, or a feeling that their sleep was not restful.

Daytime Fatigue

Daytime sleepiness, low energy, difficulty focusing, and irritability may be signs of poor sleep quality.
